We’re thrilled to announce our 2nd annual Habitat ReStore Sip & Shop at our McHenry ReStore, Sunday, April 30th! Last year you helped us raise $12,000 towards building affordable housing for families in McHenry County. Help us and be a part of beating our 2023 goal of $15,000!
Habitat homeowners are people we see every day. They work in our schools, our hospitals and our manufacturing and all have one thing in common; the rapidly rising cost of rent and housing in McHenry County. For nearly 30 years Habitat McHenry County has worked alongside families to build the foundation they need to improve their lives and in turn, build up McHenry County. Our Homeownership Program does not give homes away. We offer an opportunity to break the cycle and purchase a home at an affordable mortgage no more than 30% of a family’s gross income.
The shortage of affordable, safe and adequate housing is a crisis affecting all income levels, but particularly low-income families and individuals. High housing costs, combined with low wages and affordable housing support, has made it difficult for many people to find and maintain stable housing. Our sweat equity model requires families to contribute labor, alongside volunteers, making it possible for them to purchase and own a home they otherwise could not afford. Empowering families to take control of their housing situation, giving them stability and security.
